How Did We Get Here?

Happy International Women's Day!! So... what is this podcast all about? Why in the world am I doing this? How is this toy doll connected to this little girl? (that's me in my favorite dress- it twirled!) Find out in the inaugural podcast episode of Pretty Strong hosted by Sherri Whitley Jernigan.
I’m a lifelong educator and advocate for women. This podcast is dedicated to celebrating the strength, resilience, and creativity of incredible women. We’ll dive into their stories, exploring how they’ve overcome challenges and made an impact in their fields.

In 2015, I co-founded an after-school STEAM club, and during that time, I discovered GoldieBlox—a toy company with the world’s first female engineer doll. This resonated deeply with me, both as a teacher and as a mom of two daughters. I firmly believe in what GoldieBlox founder Debbie Sterling said: “When you’re able to see people like you succeed, it helps you believe that anything is possible.” Representation truly matters, especially in STEM fields.

With Pretty Strong, I’m excited to share stories of women who have been trailblazers, inventors, and unsung heroes. I hope these stories inspire you to embrace your strength and believe in your potential.
